Vietnam ISPs

With the recent instability in Facebook access and some people reporting it blocked on one ISP or area of Vietnam while others can access it just fine... Is it time for you to rethink your choice in internet service provider?

There are a dozen or so ISPs in Vietnam but I've only looked at the biggest: Viettel, VNPT, FPT, SPT, and Netnam. They also all provide fiber internet (FTTH - fiber to the home) and not just ADSL. Here are their prices for selected packages:

As you can see, broadband internet in Vietnam can be as low as "free" if you pay-per-use or 150,000/month for a basic package. This is affordable for anyone in Vietnam who can afford a computer to connect it to. The higher end broadband packages, though, quickly go up to 1 million and up. But for that price fiber internet becomes an option. Netnam's 24 Mbps fiber package can currently be had for the same price as their 4 Mbps ADSL (1 million) because of a special sale they're having.

Despite being a poor country internet speeds in Vietnam are still faster than many Asian and Latin American countries, even South Africa and Turkey. Most people are on broadband and a significant portion up to 5 Mbit. The following chart is from Pingdom last November.

This page is supposed to have a list. But there isn't one. It's blank. Pity, it would be useful!
